A survey conducted for the American City Business Journals (ACBJ) finds a vast majority (82%) of American full-time workers would be willing to shorten their current five-day work week (averaging eight hours a day) to a four-day work week (averaging ten hours a day)—and do it for the same amount of pay that they’re getting now.
Those full-time workers most likely to sign up for this change in their schedule can be found foremost in the Midwest (84%) and Northeast (83%), followed by those in the South (82%) and the West (78%).
Workers who are most open to making the switch are in the highest income ($100,000 +, 88%) bracket, followed by those earning lower-middle ($25,000- $49,000, 81%), upper-middle ($50,000-$99,000, 78%), and the lowest (less than $25,000, 76%) income ranges.
While there’s no age differentiation, women (85%) are more likely to opt for this choice than men (79%), along with those who are the highest educated (University+, 85%), compared to those who are least educated (less than high school, 79%) or with immediate postsecondary education (college/associate, 76%).
